Heuchera 'Palace Purple'

PriceFrom £3.45

Heuchera are underrated but extremely effective plants that we're expecting to have a bit of a renaicance over the coming years. They are tough but beautiful plants and the purple leaved varieties such as this 'Palace Purple' provide fantastic contrast  amongst all the green.

  • Will grow in most places apart from deep shade
  • Best in mosit but, well-drained, fertile soil, but they are fairly drought resistant in the Urban Plot garden once established
  • Airy flower spikes reach up to 60 cm in height with a 40 cm spread
  • Perfect 'spiller' plant in a border to provide ground cover and low level structure
  • Pairs well with amongst green leaved plants, but we like it best alongside Geranium 'Rozanne', the zingy yellow of Alchemilla mollis and sprays of ferns
  • Resistant to slugs and snails as tested in the Urban Plot labs

Heuchera 'Palace Purple', a striking clump-forming perennial, is a captivating addition to any garden with its rich, mahogany-purple foliage and delicate, white to pale pink summer flowers that provide movement and airy, almost transparent, presence at the front of a border. Thriving in conditions ranging from partial shade to full sun, this versatile plant adds year-round interest and texture to your garden beds and borders. Its foliage, which retains its vibrant hue through the seasons, makes 'Palace Purple' an excellent choice for creating contrast and depth in garden designs.

Preferring well-drained, fertile soil, Heuchera 'Palace Purple' flower spikes reach an eventual height of 60 cm, although the foliage will stay around 20 cm, with a spread of up to 40 cm, making it a substantial yet manageable presence in the garden. It flourishes in a variety of soil types as long as the drainage is adequate, which helps prevent root rot and other moisture-related issues. This heuchera variety is also notably resistant to slugs and snails, providing a low-maintenance option for gardeners who struggle with these common pests.

When planning your planting scheme, consider using 'Palace Purple' to break up focal point in borders or as a complementary plant in mixed containers. It pairs beautifully with contrasting green leaf plants companions such as Geranium and Geums, as well as with the contrasting textures of ferns. The plant's bold foliage can highlight the delicate fronds of ferns or the green leaves of Geraniums, creating a harmonious yet dynamic display. With its resilience and stunning appearance, Heuchera 'Palace Purple' is an essential plant for adding elegance and visual interest to both modern and traditional garden designs.
